Joanna Wlaszyn is a Polish-French interdisciplinary artist based in Paris. Her primary practice, incorporating both traditional and new media, demonstrates an active engagement with the Post-Digital Age. Her polymorphic work, including 3D, AR, AI, digitally generated images, hybrid drawings and paintings, video, and installations, challenges modes of perception and representation. With 15 years of professional experience, she has honed her expertise in imaging, new media, art, architecture, and environmental design. As an interdisciplinary artist and educator, she currently leads the Transdisciplinary New Media Department at Paris College of Art. Her passion for interdisciplinary art stems from its limitless potential to merge diverse fields and perspectives. By integrating art, technology, and design, she pushes the boundaries of traditional disciplines, crafting innovative and thought-provoking creations. She is particularly captivated by the transformative power of digital technologies in reshaping our perception and interaction with the world. This enthusiasm drives her continuous pursuit of knowledge, experimentation, and the sharing of insights through her artistic practice and her roles as an educator, researcher, and creative strategist.
CONFRONTING THE POST-DIGITAL AGE
Wlaszyn purposefully creates hybrid artworks, combining traditional and digital techniques, in response to a constantly evolving post-digital culture and in opposition to various phenomena, such as overlapping realities, multidimensional digital identities, or misleading futures, which she translates suggestively into an alternative understanding of the world to (out)come.
MALLEABLE REALITIES
Rather than distorting reality, she attempts to create alternative interpretations based on New Aesthetics. Her works fuse visual language with conceptual experiment. And even though her visual explorations contain figures that are not construed voluntarily, they offer representations that are free to interpretation, with universal narratives that are accessible to all.
ART MEETS THEORY
Joanna Wlaszyn holds a doctorate in the Critical Theory of Architecture from the University Paris-Est and a Master's degree (MS) in New Media Art & Design from ENSCI in Paris. She has published numerous scientific publications exploring the impact of digital technologies on architecture and visual arts. She has exhibited internationally, including solo and group shows in New York, Korea, Portugal, England, Greece, and France. REFERENCES
