Real-time acoustic mapping as urban phenomenology
dE (DECONNECTION ÉPHÉMÈRE) is a project of real-time noise mapping, conceived as a passage that allows one to step away momentarily from the external world and experience a fleeting sense of ephemeral de_connection. Its primary function is to render urban noise visible through dynamic light mapping, transforming sound into a shifting visual presence. The design creates an interior space that immerses the visitor in an illusory wave of moving noise, offering both isolation and heightened awareness. Beyond its experiential role, dE acts as an urban landmark, a responsive environment that reveals the city’s acoustic variations in real time. In polluted urban contexts, the passage becomes a reactive threshold where passersby engage in a sensitive dialogue with their surroundings. As a critical gesture, dE is not only an environmental marker but also a sensory experience, a place for reflection on the conditions of contemporary urban life, where perception, technology, and environment converge in a fragile equilibrium.
